UNDERGRADUATE COMMITS SUICIDE IN ATBU BAUCHI

Undergraduate commits suicide in Bauchi

A third year student of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, identified as Dahiru Adamu, who is a student of department of Technology Education, Wood Work section in the early hours of Friday, reportedly hanged himself on a tree.

The incident was said to have occurred at the Gubi Campus of the school, along Kano road.

According to another eye witness report who decided to claim anonymous said that the lifeless body of the student hung on the tree for over 2 hours.

He said, “I got to school this (Friday) morning only to discover a student hanging on one of the trees in the school.

“As I speak with you now, his body is still hanging on the tree and I can see the Vice Chancellor and some Management staff at the scene with an ambulance parked by the side. I believe they are waiting for the Police to come.

“The deceased left his shoes and books under the tree and then hung himself. I could see them (books and his shoes) as I speak with you now.

“I don’t know the full identity of the deceased but I learnt his name is Dahiru, a 300 Level student of Wood Work Section in the Department of Technology Education. He was supposed to have been on IT (Industrial Training) but he missed going.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Kamal Datti, confirmed the incident to newsmen,

Datti, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said that the Chief Security Officer of the University informed the Police of the development.

“Our men immediately swung into action and removed the body and deposited it at the Mortuary at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi,” Datti stated.

The Police Spokesman added that “preliminary investigation revealed that the name of the deceased is Dahiru Adamu and 30 years of age. He was a 300 Level student of the Technology Education Department of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.

“The preliminary investigation has also shown that he was admitted at the Teaching Hospital on Wednesday. He was treated and discharged.”

He said that the actual cause of the death has not yet been ascertained but pointed out that full investigation into the matter are ongoing.

The PPRO informed our Correspondent that efforts are ongoing to contact the family of the deceased.

Efforts made to contact the Public Relations Officer of the University, Zailani Bappah, proved abortive.

HUSBAND STABBED TO DEATH BY HIS WIFE

Bilyamin Muhammed Bello, the son of a former PDP chairman, Haliru Bello, was last night, allegedly, stabbed to the death by his wife, Maryam Sanda, the daughter of embattled former Aso Savings boss, Hajia Maimuna Aliyu.

According to reports, the attack stemmed from an allegation of infidelity after she saw a text message on his phone. The deceased was stabbed 3 times in the back; and severally on his private parts, at their home in Maitama, Abuja.

Before this, Maimuna had bit part of his ear off and was treated at a hospital before returning home. He was advised to leave the house but he refused. After stabbing him, she drove him to the hospital where he died. The couple had a daughter together. He will be buried today.

The University of Calabar has recalled Professor Cyril Ndifon, the former Dean, Faculty of Law, who was suspend after being accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old student in his office in 2015, CrossRiverWatch reports.

The lecturer was suspended for allegedly raping the female student after tearing her script in the classroom for malpractice. The lecturer allegedly invited Ms Simeobong Nkang to his office where he forcibly had sex with her.

The professor was briefly arrested and detained by the police and later released before he was suspended by the panel set up to investigate him.

According to reports, Prof Ndifon has now been reinstated as the Dean of the Faculty. A recent court ruling reportedly exonerated him of any wrong doing. He was welcomed by staff and students of the faculty, last week.

ANTI NARCOTICS OPERATION YIELDS DIVIDEND IN JOINT OPERATION WITH THE NDLEA

1. Troops of 145 Battalion (R) and operatives of NDLEA on Saturday, 11 November 2017 acting on an intelligence report conducted a joint raid on some hard drug black sports in Umuahia general area. During the raid, substances suspected to be cocaine and marijuana were recovered.

2. Suspects including a 60 year old woman were arrested during the raid. The substances and suspects have been handed over to the NDLEA for investigation and prosecution.

ANTI - KIDNAPPING ACTIVITIES OF 14 BRIGADE YIELDS FRUIT

1. At about 8pm on 10 November 2017, Barrister Michael Okwundu Onyeka, the general overseer of Victorious Peoples Assembly was kidnapped by armed hoodlums in Aba.

2. Acting on tip off from the locals, own troops of 144 Bn Aba combed bushes of Ngboko general area on Sunday, 12 November 2017, rescued the kidnapped pastor who was in good condition. Suspects ran away on sighting own troops. However, own troops are on their trail with a view to arresting them.

IPOB MEMBERS ARRESTED IN ABA

1. Troops of 144 Battalion on patrol in Aba town on Sunday, 12 November 2017 at about 4am in Alaoji Fly Over general area of Aba arrested 3 suspected members of proscribed IPOB organization in Aba, Abia State. The suspects are; Mr Nwagbougwu Okeke, aged 55yrs, Mr Chidiebere Nwaoha, aged 35yrs and Mr John Nwaogazi, aged 50yrs.

2. The suspects were caught distributing flyers and posters with caption "No Election In Anambra State". The suspects and flyers have been handed over to the Department of State Security for further investigation.

3. 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army will continue to partner with other security agencies to flush out criminality and anti social activities within the State. Members of the public are respectfully requested to pass timely information to the security agencies.

KIDNAP of a seventeen year old girl

Yewunu Tanlaju, the alleged killer of a 17-year-old girl whose body parts were reportedly severed for money rituals, on Monday, disclosed that he was contracted to do the job for N8,000. .

The 35-year-old suspect made the shocking confession to journalists after he was paraded alongside two other alleged partners in crime at the police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta. .

He said he lured the girl, who was hawking snacks into a hideout at Arigo Ijofin located in Ipokia LGA of Ogun State and murdered her. ”I was given the sum of N8,000 as contract job for the killing of the girl. .
.
It was Olusoji Asamo, the herbalist, who contracted the job to me,” he said. The suspect said he, thereafter, overpowered the victim and tied her. ”I slaughtered the girl, severed her head, and also dismembered vital parts of the body, which include private part, heart, intestines and the two hands,” he said. .

He revealed that he later dumped the remains into a well and took the needed body parts to the herbalist. The suspect also disclosed that the killing of the hawker was his second operation, adding that he was paid N10,000 for his first assignment. .

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ilyasu, said the arrest of Yewunu Tanlaju and two others, Olusoji Asamo and Joye Suru followed a report by the father of the deceased to the police. .

The removed parts were recovered from the herbalist while the ‘remaining body’ has been deposited at Ilaro General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
